Birds and Butterflies

The flora and fauna of central Spain is well documented; of the hundreds of species of birds to be seen in Spain a high proportion of those can be seen in this central zone. Since 2020 I have seen 182 species of birds together with 53 species of butterflies, recorded within 1 hour of La Sayuela.

We are lucky to have many breeding bird species in and around ‘La Sayuela’ including Golden oriole, Nightingale, Iberian Magpie, Cirl bunting and Hoopoe.

The birdwatching in this part of Spain is some of the best in Europe, we are very lucky to be within easy reach of Monfrague National park, the steppes of Trujillo and Caceres also the fabulous environment of the high Gredos where we find Rock Thrush, Bluethroat, Blue Rock Thrush, Water pipit and Ortolan Bunting amongst many others.
